Liebster Award 2017

I am truly humbled. I had, before my recent eye troubles and Holiday Hoopla a wonderful nomination for a Libester Award from the Dynamic Anindya. Besides being an incredibly polite and understanding individual, he is an avid blogger. Thank you so much Anindya for the nomination and the chance to take the time I needed to heal and get back into blogging!

As these awards go, I will answer Anindya’s questions, nominate some wonderful folks for the Liebster Award, and present my own set of questions for my nominees. As with any award, you had the right to refuse the nomination, accept, ignore, whatever. However I do hope you receive some traffic from my links to your blogs!

Without further comment, I give you Anindya’s questions for me:

1. What inspired you to start blogging?

I’ve mentioned in the past that I was pregnant and needing an outlet while I recovered and had downtime with my new baby. What I’ve never admitted is I had a talented friend who wrote for NanoRamo (?) and wrote fantastic stories. I admired that, and always felt I could write too, but not long connected stories like she wrote. Blogging seemed like a fantastic way to share short stories. While having my son promoted me to start blogging, J will always be the reason I started researching ways to write and ultimately coming upon the blogging writing medium.

2. What is the best thing you love about your home city ?

I grew up in a itty bitty ol’ town that started off as a train stop going west, to California. I loved living by the tracks, I loved living by this large man made pond that we would explore in the summer.

3. What are the types of music you usually listen to ?

I listen to beginning band music mostly. I teach music and I can hum just about any little ditty from those blades red and blue books. When I have a choice, it’s a mixture of pop, rock, songwriter, coffeehouse, and world music.

4. Who will be your dream date on any day of the year ?

My husband and I visiting the beach. My son would be with his grandmother and we would be comfortable in knowing he was safe. A nice night by the waterfront in a seafood restaurant that wasn’t too commercial and had outdoor seating a cute twinkle lights accenting the pier/balcony. We would y’all not about the things that trouble us, or the things we need to do, but just about life like we use to….

5. Kindle or hardcovers /paperbacks ?

I own a nook, so nook instead of Kindle. I own a nook because my husband wouldn’t buy another bookshelf. That was his way of keeping the paper down. At one point we had two bookshelves filled to overflowing with books. Now we have one, 8 foot metal bookcase with everything we have downsized from those shelves. While nothing will ever replace the joy of cracking open a new HP book and smelling the fresh paper pages, it’s nice to “order” a book from my home and to be able to read it instantly.

6. What is your favorite color, and why ?

I love purple. I can’t see all the shades of purple anymore, but I remember it being luxurious when it was deep and frivolous and cute when it was light. While I enjoy all the colors, I believe it is my favorite.

7. Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, for blogging, which is your most favorite ?

I enjoy advertising through my Instagram page. I’m not really sure it does me any good, but I enjoy sharing my post graphics there.

8. Have you visited India ?

No, I have not. I’ve never been outside of the United States of America. I would love to travel around the world, including India. I admire greatly the Indian culture. I admire the traditional clothing I have been exposed to, the music I have been fortunate to hear, and I admit, Bollywood movies give me joy!

9. For those who have and for those who live in India, what is your most favorite destination here ?

Null for me, unfortunately.

10. Can you ever think of leaving blogging ?

Yes, the idea has crossed my mind. It’s usually when I am frustrated with what to write about, my inconsistency with my writing, and my foolish decision to not be anonymous with my site and allow friends and family access. Many bad experiences came from my blog being used incorrectly by myself. If I had been patient and careful perhaps I would have continued to mature and not lost friendships due to my immaturity and free sharing nature. I often imagine a new domain name to start over… but I love Afternoon of Sundries and I would need something equally as ambiguous and fantastic to replace it. So far no luck- which is why now and again I think of closing down the whole site. Again, this is all my fault. The past is the past and I have learned much from it.

Below are some blogs I would like to nominate for the Liebster:

My questions are as follows:

  1. What are some traditions you enjoyed taking part in as a child?
  2. How long have you blogged? Is the blog I tagged your first blog, or second (or third…)?
  3. What is a piece of writing advice you stick to now that you wish you had known in the beginning?
  4. What is your favorite recipe to make (and link it so we may try to make it one day too)?
  5. Is there another culture you admire? If so, please tell us about it and why!
  6. If you could visit a place, country, venue for free (all expenses paid for by a wonderful person) where would you go?
  7. What is your favorite genre to read for pleasure?
  8. Do you have any pets? What are they? Tell us about their personalities!
  9. If you could talk to anyone again, living or dead from your life, who would it be? Why (if that’s not to bold to ask)
  10. How do you plan to blog in the new year? Will you continue on as you have been, try new things, or is something else in store? Let us know!

Once again, thank you Anindya for this wonderfully amazing nomination! My nominees will be notified as soon as I am able. Thank you!

Sunshine Blogging Award Challange

I‘ve been nominated for this wonderful award by Readers and More! Thank you so much for the honor of this award! Please check out Readers and More’s blog!

Now the rules are simple, I must nominate 10 people, thank my wonderful nominator, and create questions of my own!

The questions I am to answer, with the answers, are as follows:

  • How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging for a little over one year! It’s been a wonderful learning experience!

  • What is your favorite food?

Sushi, white tuna sushi is my spirit animal.

  • What time zone do you live in?

I live in Eastern Time Zone – my clocks are set to New York’s time on the iPhone!

  • Where have you gone on vacation this summer?

I went many places this summer, but our actual vacation was at the beach!

  • Who is your favorite actor/ actress?

Maggie Smith. She’s amazing. Simply Amazing!

  • What is one year (or was) that was very important in your life?

The year of my son’s birth! It was the most amazing year of miracles!

  • Do you have a set blogging schedule or do you post when an idea comes to you?

I’m totally random, every single day. I plan little things but nothing in advance!

  • What’s your biggest fear?

No afterlife. I am a person that believes in God 100% but I have this nagging in the back of my head that I’m not good enough to go to heaven. So I fear a death that is darkness and nothingness. Though honestly, when I die, will I have time to worry about it?

  • What is your favorite book genre?

Fantasy (Mercedes Lackey is my Queen)!

  • What’s one thing you can’t leave the house without?

Besides the baby? My iPhone. I’m constantly plugged in!

  • What’s your biggest pet peeve?

People who come into my space and act like they have a right to be there and lord over me. Not cool.

I hereby nominate:

I could nominate more…. There are so many awesome bloggers on here who post amazing content!

Don’t forget to tag the people you nominate!

Check these awesome people out please! You won’t be sorry you did!!

Edit:

I forgot to make up questions!

So tired! Okay:

  1. If you could channel your soul into a spirit animal, what would it be and why?
  2. Who do you secretly stalk online?
  3. What is your power outfit? The get up you wear to make yourself feel confident!
  4. If you could make one wish consequence free, what would it be and why?
  5. What musical instruments are you proficient in, or wish you were proficient in?
  6. What is your guilty pleasure TV show or movie?
  7. What is your favorite food?
  8. What book is your favorite read and why?
  9. What do you do for a living?
  10. What languages do you speak?

Liebster Award

I am so behind on this! Let first say thank you so much to my friend (at least I feel like we are friendly bloggers I hope I’m not being too forward!) Raphaela for this honor! It is very wonderful to think I am blogging worthwhile things that people wish to read!

I also wish to apologize for the lateness of my acceptance of this Liebster, life gets me in a tizzy and I forget about things!

Without further ado, the questions I am to answer:

  • What would you like to most accomplish in 2015?

It is probably no surprise that I would like to accomplish in 2015, a completely organized home.

  • What is your favorite food?

My favorite food is sushi or spaghetti. I have more access to spaghetti so it is my favorite, but sushi I would give up spaghetti for sushi.

  • What is your favorite color?

I am one of those people who like all colors, as long as they are jewel toned and vibrant; but my go to color as of late, is purple a deep rich purple.

  • What TV shows do you enjoy?

My absolute favorite at the moment are iZombie, Bones, Dancing With the Stars, and Once Upon a Time.

  • Favorite film?

This is really tough, but the first film a pop to my mind was Timer. There is something about this little known film that just seems to work in all the ways for my mind.

  • Favorite way to relax?

My cheapest favorite way to relax is reading a good book from cover to cover. However, my favorite way to relax of money is no object is going to the beach and just walking along the shore and collecting shells and sea glass.

  • Favorite animal?

My favorite animal is a cat just a regular old house cat. House cats have always been very loyal and faithful and loving to me and I will always treat them with the utmost care and respect.

  • Favorite item of clothing?

My favorite item of clothing would  have to be my pair of turquoise, sea green, and white patterned pants. They’re the first pair of pants that I bought that I got because I like them and they made me feel confident in myself. I got them at the start of my “I love myself” revelation I had earlier this year.

  • Favorite book?

I really can’t go wrong with Mercedes Lackey but my all-time favorite book is Arrows of the Queen.

  • Where would you like to be in 10 years time?

Does being a stable counts as being in a place I’d like to be in 10 years time because that’s what I like to be. I mean yes, I would be amazing if in 10 years I had a wonderful middle school job someplace by the beach and my husband also has a filling job in the same county. However, I really would like to have a stable life stable family, stable money, stable job, stable everything. When I stay stable I don’t mean stagnant, I just mean things are stable enough for us to worry about other things in our lives.

So that is all 10 of my questions answered. I believe next, I have to nominate some people of my own.

So I would like to nominate the following bloggers for the Liebster Award:

Not a Punk Rocker

I prefer deep blues and seafoam greens

martha0stout

Susie81speaks

Harsh Reality

Be Like Water

All of these blogs I love to read whenever they have a new post. Of course nobody has to do this,  nobody is being forced to do this, but if they like to keep the Liebster Award going they certainly may!

My questions for these people are:

  1. When and why did you start blogging in the first place?
  2. What is your favorite Friday night relaxing activity?
  3. If you could vacation anywhere this summer where would it be?
  4. If you had one super power what would it be and how would it work?
  5. If you could visit any story that you’ve ever read, any story, what would it be and why would you visit that story?
  6. If you had the time, what new hobby would you take up that you always wanted to try?
  7.  What is your favorite type of weather?
  8. Do you have any Hidden talents that you would like to share with us?
  9. If you could meet anyone dead or alive who it be?
  10. Which type of person would you be during a zombie apocalypse: the heavy hitter, the scaredy-cat, the scientific miracle cure finding person, or the token person that eats gets eaten first? Did I forget someone who she would like to tell us about?

Alright doesn’t my questions I hope they’re interesting off to answer!

Remember the rules, you have to thank the person that awarded you, you have to give them 10 new questions to answer, and you have to nominate at least five people for the award.

Once again thank you so much Raphaela for the nomination!

Oh Wow! Thank You So Much!

Trying to give you all different people to check out!).  I also have just subscribed to some new blogs and just haven’t had the time to get to them all.  The 9 I did nominate I have looked through and enjoy their content.  I promise to keep looking and finding more people to follow and discover. VIBA- Very Inspirational Blogger Award- (Dude!)

It’s 4:30AM and I awoke to my husband’s snoring (it’s like a wildebeest mixed with death) and realized… There’s no baby crying! What?! Oh yeah, he’s sleeping alone! In another room… He’s doing fine, I might add! Woohoo!

So it’s 4:30AM and I am stumbling around, checking on CDubs and as I am filling a glass of water I see I have emails galore touting baby onesies for $3.99 and this comment from Rachael (check out her blog btw I enjoy reading her posts) telling me she’s nominated me (duuude! Let me show my age with the first word of shock that pops into my head) for a VIBA!!
20140728-051330-18810796.jpg

I’m going to tell you, I was touched. I couldn’t… I was… I started this blog, as many of you know, because I was going quite mad watching BBC America all day (Little Dorrit, From Lark Rise to Candleford, Downton Abbey… I’ve been shameless). I itched to do something in writing. I had to turn in 20 lesson plans a week for my teaching job and to suddenly stop, it was like, “what am I to do with myself?” Newborns eat a lot and sleep a lot. On you. So I began blogging with one hand on the iPhone, one hand cradling a sleeping newborn.

I said to myself then “this is for me. It doesn’t matter if one or twenty read this, I am doing it for me.” But then one or two follows trickled in and I was like “Saints preserve us! People are reading my addle brained, sleep deprived musings!” Which only encouraged me more. I thank you for that, all of you.

I had no idea how important it actually was to know someone was listening. I have to admit as a survivor of child abuse, knowing someone is actually taking the time to listen; better than a new Coach bag, better than a hug, just… It rocks.

Here I am with 25 followers strong and I am just honored you followed and ridiculously pleased Rachel nominated me. Thank you so much madam, I am truly deeply honored. You are a prolific blogger who has obviously been blogging a long time (just with your ease of word use and such), and you seeing such a glimmer of inspiration in my wild typings, I thank you madam.

Now there are rules to this sort of thing and one is to post the rules and follow the rules, kind of opposite Fight Club in that respect. The rules of accepting a VIBA:

the Award Guidelines are As Follows:

1. Thank and link the amazing person who nominated you. (Again thank you Rachael)

2. List the rules and display the award.

3. Share seven facts about yourself.

4. Nominate 15 other Amazing blogs and comment on their posts to let them know they have been nominated.

5. Proudly display the award logo on your blog and follow the blog that nominated you. (Which is the simplest thing because, I was already following Rachael!)

Alright, 7 facts for you all about myself. Gonna share some obvious ones and ones you may not know because you are in the interwebs!

Fact One: Until the age of 11 I had a noticeable British accent and was bullied mercilessly about it. Why? Because I was born and raised in the Southern portion of the USA! There was no reason I should have that accent except my father did and he reinforced our accidents with hours of Are You Being Served?

Fact Two: I grew up in a hoarding environment. My mother who is bipolar and manic depressive was the hoarder and also beat us and we often went around with bruises as children. Life was pretty hellish.

Fact Three: I put myself through college and met my wonderful husband there!

Fact Four: I can play: Trombone, Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, trumpet, Saxophone, bass clarinet, Baritone, tuba, violin, Viola, stringed upright bass, cello, guitar, drum set, and percussion instruments. I can sing in French (it’s horrible, my accent), German, Italian, Latin, Japanese, and Spanish. I play better than I sing but, my voice isn’t half bad either. (Had to learn all this stuff to get my Music Education Degree.)

Fact Five: I have a rare eye disease called PIC and I also have a Pituitary Adenoma which is a tumor on that gland. Having both diseases together makes me very rare indeed!

Fact Six: this one takes a bit of… Strength to mention because in the South we don’t like to talk about personal, personal things but, here we go. I identify as being not homosexual, bisexual, or straight but as asexual. For reals. I’ve kinda been putting on a front for years. I enjoy the act with my husband but could be quite happy in the same token to never have sex ever again. It’s my husband that makes me want to because I love him and want to be close with him; not because I am a raving sex machine. I truly thought something was wrong with me until I figured that out. Didn’t know it had a name just figured it was a reaction to the sexual abuse of my childhood and I had to “work through it.”

Fact Seven: Sushi. I need it to live.

Those were rather heavy, my bad but I feel that my core being is defined by many if those facts. Some are just for fun. My spirit animal is white tuna sashimi. Just saying.

All the blogs I nominate I read at the very least, weekly and I genuinely enjoy doing so. Some have been nominated before but, I just enjoy then too much to not mention them! I understand if they do not go through this process again though!

I will nominate then notify, but please give me time, my bebe is most demanding (and should be!)!

These are in no particular Order and are all quite fabulous:

Natacha Guyot
Natacha’s blog is a Sci Fye Fantasy extravaganza. I mean she writes about Buffy and Star Wars! How can you not love that!

Martha0Stout
A very funny blogger with interesting topics. I enjoyed her want to expand her writing with her prompts! I really enjoyed the one about taking just a nibble!

Fashion for Lunch
I want just about every darn thing she blogs about. Seriously inspired me to step up my wardrobe.

Rose B Fischer
She blogs about mental illness how it’s portrayed in the media. She is always interesting and makes me think.

Valeriu Dg Barbu
Love, love, love the poetry Valeriu posts in THREE DIFFERENT LANGUAGES for EACH poem. Dedication my friends, dedication.

Suzie81 Speaks
She’s gotten this award before but, that’s because she deserves it. Besides being a fellow music teacher (from across the pond), she’s funny and again makes me think about things. Very prolific blogger. The American in me loves hearing about England too…

Not A Punk Rocker
Besides our shared affinity for doing stuff to our hair when we get the itch to change, NAPR is down to earth and just right there bold! The super hero Legos are awesome btw. Love her blog!

His Wife, Our Life
A very sweet loving blog about this young woman and the love if her life. I like reading about her personal discoveries and it takes me back to when Ryan and I just started out… Although the two courtships are completely different, I can feel the same types of emotions though, when I read her stuff.

Knocked Over by a Feather
Another kick butt blog. I like the quotes and the musings. She is a very strong woman.

adoptingjames
I am just getting into this blog. So far very light and quirky (in a good way!). I enjoy the posts I have read so far!

Saircle
This blog is a fount of positivity!

WANDERLUST
Is a young, hip, fashionable wandering soul. Gives good advice for trips and wants to see the world. Her blog is fun to read!

And these last two I put last because I know them personally. One for 16 years now, and the other about 11 I think.

So We’re Getting Married
A dear friend of mine is blogging about her experiences planning her wedding. She’s energetic and a fighter and all of her posts are light and filled with hope and excitement for the future!

Taught by the World
Is another dear friend who travels around the world, a lot! France, Malaysia, England, Ireland… Now Egypt for two years! She is a teacher and will be teaching in Egypt and blogging about it!

Alright, those are my 15. I have many other blogs I subscribe to, and they are fantastic too! I am now going to go notify all these people now, lol and give them their writing prompt for the morning, lol! Please check out their blogs, it’s worth it, I promise!

(And my inlaws are in town so I better hurry before it’s too late!!!)

Edit: 10AM I think I notified everyone! (And read some more of their posts!) if I forgot you, I apologize! CDubs demands attention, I must go!

(Girl Eats Greens, I set the award as my main picture. I don’t know why your delicious food is the main pic but it is! My apologies)
