I haven’t been many places in my life. I’ve visited up and down the East Coast of the USA and the Chicago Airport once for four hours. Other than that, I have not been anywhere.
The one place that changed my entire life, that I visited for quite a long time, was GSO. I went to college and lived in GSO for around 8 years.
While I am fatalistic in general, and tend to focus on the negative (and I can recount for you MANY negative memories from GSO and collage and life there in general) I actually loved living in GSO overall.
I am SO thankful I went to Greensboro College. I am so blessed to have met some of the most loving, supportive people that I am privileged to call members of my extended family. Closer than blood, I tell you. I met my crazy loving husband there, I learned to be a dam good teacher there. I learned how to adult unsuccessfully there which caused me to be more successful here, where I live now.
GSO was the first place I could escape the abuse and negativity of my family. The first place I could be myself and tell the truth (maybe too much). I made so many mistakes there. I made so many ridiculous choices.
But I am so thankful that I lived there. I am so glad I took that chance and instead of going into the local community college and becoming a dental assistant (lovely career just not for me, I make a better teacher) I tried that little private school that changed my life. I’m not sure who I’d be without GSO and Greensboro College!
There is so much to be thankful for! Join me this month as I try to answer all of these prompts during the month of November:
